I’m looking for a Parliamentary Assistant to work in my constituency office in Nottingham South. The role will be focused on policy and constituency campaigns and will involve working as part of our team in Nottingham and with my Parliamentary Assistant based in Westminster, to identify constituency issues and opportunities to raise them in Parliament.

Full time position (37.5 hours) based in Lilian Greenwood’s constituency office in Nottingham with the opportunity for some flexible/remote working. This role is available as a job share.

Job Details

  • To undertake research, prepare reports, draft correspondence, parliamentary questions, speeches and briefing notes on policy issues.
  • Work with Lilian and her Parliamentary Assistant based in Westminster to identify constituency issues and opportunities to raise them in Parliament.
  • Respond to correspondence from constituents on a wide range of policy matters (with access to the Parliamentary Research Service).
  • Advise Lilian on policy issues.
  • Help to organise appointments, meetings and events in the constituency.
  • Liaise with groups and stakeholders in the constituency, as well as Government departments and other organisations.
  • Engage confidentially, professionally, with care and integrity with members of the public, through telephone enquiries, social media, email and face to face communications.
  • Log correspondence and ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially and in line with data protection legislation.

Person specification

  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Good customer service skills and a polite and respectful manner.
  • The ability to work to tight deadlines in a political environment, managing competing and rapidly changing priorities.
  • IT literacy and ability to use a case management system.
  • Ability to work as part of a team across multiple locations, and also proactively and independently.
  • The ability to maintain complete discretion and confidentiality.
  • Be sympathetic to the aims and objectives of the Labour Party.

Desirable 

  • Knowledge of the Nottingham South constituency.
  • An understanding of Parliamentary procedures.
