I’ve been the MP for Nottingham South for 6 years now and Clifton constituents have been telling me that they’d like to see a better range of shops, especially a low cost supermarket to rival Morrisons. It’s great news that the Labour-run council have allocated £500,000 to improve Clifton’s ‘top shops’ but I decided to approach Aldi and Lidl direct to see whether they would consider opening a store here on the estate. I was confident that local residents would be keen to support the idea but the response has been amazing: over 250 people have signed the petition in the first 2 hours! I certainly hope Aldi or Lidl will sit up and listen but if anyone can get the attention of Aldi or Lidl, it’s the Clifton community.
