Nottingham South MP Lilian Greenwood has officially opened the £366,000 extension at Southwold Primary School, allowing it to expand from 180 to 210 places. As well as a new classroom, the extension also contains a multi-purpose space which can be used as an area for art and small group work,
or as an out of school hours community room.
Pupils were delighted with the new building and promised Lilian that they would take good care of it, work extra hard for their teachers and make their mums and dads proud!
As part of the official opening, Lilian was asked to unveil a mosaic created by pupils and to blow a horn to signal a balloon release. Every child let off a balloon with their name and school address attached to it, inviting whoever finds it to write back.
Speaking inside the new classroom, which has been in use since September, Lilian said:
“It is fantastic that the school has this new building and it’s great to see how happy the children are about it.
“What is also pleasing is that we have a much needed community room for this area, as that is something we haven’t had until now.”
