Lilian has written to the Highways Agency and Nottingham City Council urging them to note strong public support for the idea of naming the upgraded A453 in commemoration of British soldiers killed in Afghanistan.

The family of Warrant Officer Sean Upton, a Nottinghamshire soldier killed by an explosion while on patrol in 2009, proposed the idea.

Suggestions for the name change include Heroes’ Way or Bastion Way.

Lilian said:

“People spend a lot of time on that road and it would be no bad thing for people to remember the human costs of war and the 453 people who gave their lives in Afghanistan.

“I have written to both the Highways Agency and Nottingham City urging them to explore the possibility of assigning an appropriate name to the road in tribute to the human costs of war and in recognition of the 453 service personnel who lost their lives during the conflict.”
