Lilian today visited Nottingham Women’s Centre’s newly refurbished library.

The newly-refurbished library, which re-opened in November, contains a large collection of feminist, women’s and lesbian/bi/trans fiction and non-fiction, which is available for borrowing and for research purposes.

Speaking after visiting the centre, Lilian said:

“Women’s libraries are now in scarce supply across the country and the new Nottingham Women’s Centre library is the only one of its kind in the East Midlands. I am passionate about the work of the Women’s Centre; having campaigned on equality issues for more than 25 years. I know the value of access to resources and support for women and Nottingham Women’s Centre provides invaluable services to women and girls locally.”

As part of her visit, Lilian also learned more about Nottingham Women’s Centre Year of Campaigning, which aims amongst other things to encourage more women to vote.

“Women’s participation in politics including voting is a vitally important issue,” said Lilian.

“Government decisions around healthcare provision, benefits and childcare have a significant impact on women’s lives and I whole-heartedly support the work that Nottingham Women’s Centre is doing to support local women to understand more about the parliamentary system and the importance of using their vote to get their voices heard.”
