The Government has announced that Nottingham will recieve the funding it needs to complete the remaining two years of its Secure Warm Modern programme to upgrade all council homes to the 'Decent Homes' standard.
Local politicians and Nottingham City Homes had lobbied the Government to confirm the funding, and a study from Nottingham Trent University confirmed that the money had been spent effectively. The announcement comes after I secured a Parliamentary debate on the importance of delievering the remaining Decent Homes funding for Nottingham.
This is fantastic news for tenants and Nottingham as a whole, and I'm glad that we were able to persuade the Government that the money will be well spent. The investment will improve homes and neighbourhoods as well as providing much needed jobs at a time of double dip recession. This funding was in serious doubt, and it's a real victory for Nottingham that it will now be delivered.
