It was great to launch the new APPG Women in Transport today. Under cross-party leadership, the group will address the under representation of women, who currently make up only 18 per cent of the transport workforce.

Lilian visited Nottingham Community Transport today at their Sherwood depot. She was able to see first-hand the value of community transport and the importance of the Easylink bus services. Lilian was able to take a ride on one of the buses and met with staff and regular users of the service who described the service as a lifeline and valued it enormously.

Eleven million people in Britain today are living with a hearing loss, and with an ageing population that number will rise in the years ahead. Too often people delay seeking help or don’t receive the help they need and there’s increasing recognition that this not only has a devastating impact their quality of life – affecting relationships, employment and health – but also creates a real cost to our economy and our society.

Lilian really enjoyed her visit to Fernwood Primary school today.  The pupils asked some fantastic questions, about her job as a Member of Parliament as well as debating the EU referendum.  The children all wore t-shirts that they had designed themselves with their thoughts on staying in or out of the European Union.

Lilian said “It was really good to come along and chat to the Sixth Form about issues that they’re interested in. They had some really good questions! There was such a broad range of things that they wanted to ask about.” The students asked questions about many topics ranging from the impact of the EU on fisheries and on a personal note, what I would do if I became Prime Minister. “They were really engaged and it was fantastic for me to be able to talk to young people at the school about the things that matter to them.”
